Freelance Aquaculture Technician / R&D Consultant
Part-time/project-based Phase 0 PoC role for a hands-on operator in Málaga / Cádiz, Andalusia.
About AlgaMálaga
AlgaMálaga is an early-stage blue biotechnology venture establishing a highly controlled, land-based modular Ulva cultivation platform in Andalusia. We operate inland and focus on premium food, gourmet gastronomy and natural cosmetic ingredient segments.
The role
You will manage the physical operations of the 8-week Phase 0 experimental matrix. Working alongside the founders, you will run the three-tank indoor tumbling setup, maintain water chemistry and help process the first biomass batches into commercial samples.
Core responsibilities
- Document and adjust temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen and nutrient levels 2–3 times weekly to prevent stress or crop failure.
- Execute the semi-batch nitrogen and phosphorus dosing framework and maintain near-zero discharge records.
- Harvest back to a fixed stocking-density setpoint every 5 to 7 days.
- Manage post-harvest rinsing, dewatering and low-temperature air-drying to achieve a target water activity level below 0.60.
- Organise retained samples, prepare batch logs with QR codes and coordinate with accredited external labs.
What we look for
- Technical background or vocational training in Aquaculture, Marine Biology or Water Treatment Systems.
- Experience operating RAS systems, indoor aquariums or micro/macroalgae pilot modules.
- Meticulous habits around data logging, hygiene SOPs and food-grade material handling.
- Availability for hands-on tank operations in the Málaga/Cádiz region during a structured 2-month validation cycle.
Important note
This is a deferred-fee/project-based track. The expected structure is a contractually guaranteed milestone payment triggered upon closing of the Phase 0/1 capital round, or equivalent discounted early equity where appropriate.
